FAQs
Is it actually safe to visit Lagos or other parts of Nigeria?
Every year, thousands of business travelers, expats, and returning families move through Lagos and other major cities without incident. At the same time, Nigeria does have real security risks: armed robbery, kidnapping, road crime, and scams. Our job is not to pretend those risks don’t exist, but to plan around them—using vetted drivers, controlled routes, disciplined escorts, and clear movement plans so you’re not moving blind.
Are your guards and escorts armed?
It depends on the law, the location, and your risk profile. In some situations, discreet, unarmed security with a strong driver and smart routing is the safest option. In others, an armed presence is appropriate and lawful.
We will review your itinerary and threat level, explain your options clearly, and only deploy what actually makes sense for your safety—not what looks dramatic.
How far in advance should I book?
As early as possible is best—1–2 weeks before your trip gives us time to plan routes, assign the right team, and coordinate details.
That said, we understand last-minute travel happens. If you’re already at the airport or landing soon, contact us with your flight details and WhatsApp number, and we’ll tell you honestly what we can do on short notice.
What kind of vehicles do you use?
We primarily use SUVs and 4x4 vehicles that can handle Nigerian roads and traffic patterns while still blending in. For higher-risk profiles or rougher routes, we may recommend a more robust platform.
Before your trip, we can tell you the vehicle type, color, and plate number, and share driver details so you know exactly who to expect.
Will my information and movements be kept confidential?
Yes. We treat all client information—names, itineraries, addresses, and movements—as sensitive. Details are shared only with the personnel who need them to execute your security plan.
We do not post, discuss, or share client movements publicly. Discretion is part of your protection.
What exactly does Black Star Protection Agency do for INTERNATIONAL travelers?
We take ownership of your movements on the ground. That usually includes:
Secure airport pick-up and drop-off
Vetted drivers and, where appropriate, escort personnel
Pre-planned routes between airport, hotel, office, and family locations
Briefing you on areas to avoid, what to watch for, and how to move smart
Handling checkpoints, questions, and “street interference” so you don’t have to
You tell us when you land, where you’re staying, and what you need to do. We build the security plan around that.
Do you work for, or represent, the U.S. Embassy or U.S. government?
No. Black Star Protection Agency is a private security company. We do not represent the U.S. government, the U.S. Embassy, or any official agency.
We operate independently and confidentially on your behalf. You are always free to follow U.S. State Department guidance and contact the Embassy directly if you need consular assistance.
Can I just hire a safe driver without a full security team?
Yes. Many U.S. travelers start with “driver + secure transport” only for airport runs and daily movement. Based on your risk level and itinerary, we may recommend adding an escort or extra layers, but we’ll explain why and let you decide.
The goal is to give you the right level of protection, not to oversell you on unnecessary personnel.
What information do you need from me to plan my security?
To build a proper plan, we usually ask for:
Full name and number of travelers
Flight details (airport, airline, arrival and departure times)
Hotel or residence address
Dates you’ll be in Nigeria
Purpose of your trip (business, family, relocation, etc.)
Any specific concerns (previous threats, public profile, known risks)
We only ask for what we need to keep you safe, and we keep it strictly confidential.
